Review, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #15 (Relationship Status: Complicated, Conclusion)

17 05 2015

Buffy and the gang come face to face with a terrifying new demon that shares a special bond with Spike, threatening his growing connection to the Slayer.

Writer: Christos Gage
Artist: Rebekah Isaacs
Colorist: Dan Jackson

Buffy and the gang struggle with their newfound responsibility, rewriting the rules of magic. Between that and trying to understand the regular ol’rules of love, things are a little heated for our heroes. But this rock-solid group of friends are still enjoying adulthood in a thriving city (or, er…except Giles) until a seriously bad, bad guy comes to roost in a most unexpected place.

It is the conclusion of the Complicated Status arc and things are not that complicated anymore. Neither for Buffy and Spike, nor for Dawn and Xander. It was a solid issue, mostly focused on Spike and his inner demon, whom fortunately he was able to fight back and win. I don’t know if what Buffy did was brave or stupid, I don’t know if she did it out of love or immaturity. She’s kind of done it before in S3 with Angel which I believe was totally idiotic of her to do and totally immature of Angel to accept it. Thank God this time they didn’t reach the point of letting Spike drain her but Spike was strong enough to resist and remember how much he loves her.

Anyway I don’t want to spoil the whole issue, I like that the characters seem mature especially Xander who is clever enough and calm enough to not only understand when it’s time to get out, how to get out, but also is mature enough to see what is the best way to approach Dawn and to have a future with her, if there is ever going again to be a future for those two, that will be the way for sure! I will repeat again that the way Buffy handled the situation was not mature and clever, but when has she ever acted cleverly when she was in love? Can’t say it was out of character for her to do that.

The issue ends with Spike’s phone call to Angel, and that last page had me laughing for 5 minutes, I think the neighbors heard me for sure. Whoever follows spoilers knows already that in A&F #15 there will be a phone conversation between Angel and Spike, thanks to Will Conrand and his FB pic. It starts in Buffy’s issue though.

Rebekah and her art are still and always rocking it, so do the colors and letters. I am so grateful that I have finally stopped complaining about Buffy’s art. Yes, there is always room for improvement, but as long as I don’t see atrocities like in previous seasons, I am more than satisfied. Especially when Rebekah does a great job, well I am the happiest Buffyverse fan ever!

So nice issue, don’t forget to pick it up on Wednesday, and…June seems so far away!
Can’t wait!
